Critique
I choose for my critique and article by Bonnie A. Osif. She is an Assistant Engineering
Librarian at Penn State University. The author’s main point of the article is show differences in
workplace personalities between real life and the fictional world. She states that most
difficulties that occur at the workplace are temporary and correctable. She implies that comic
strips like Dilbert and the American version of “The Office” are humorous and tend to remind us
of how maybe our workplaces are not as bad as theirs. She goes on to remind us that difficult
people, from the minor annoyance to the seriously hostile or dangerous, can inhibit our
workplace and that their behavior have far-reaching and serious consequences.
The intended audience the article is trying to hit is any workplace where multiple
personalities are present. It does not have a specific job or workplace referenced in the article.
I believe it was geared towards leaders or managers within an organizational. I do believe that
the author’s arguments do support the main point she is trying to make in the articled. The
article offers advice on dealing with difficult personalities. It states that there are 3 rules for
dealing with difficult personalities. The first is not to take it personal. The next is that no matter
what you do, you cannot change their behavior. The last the only person you can change is
yourself. Some tactics for dealing with these people are assessing past incidents and
determining what
happened, how did it make me feel, and what could I do differently in the future to respond to
