Diversity has become a major goal for many companies in the last few years. With the
ever-changing climate in this country, it is as important as ever for companies to become more
diverse. So why now? It is about improving their reputation as well as promoting inclusion at
the workplace. While reputation and inclusion are definite goals worth pursuing, workplace
diversity has many immediate and tangible benefits related to a company’s bottom line.
Companies that have created a diverse workplace tend to outperform their competitors and
achieve greater profits. In this essay we will discuss some of the advantages a company may see
with a diverse workplace. We will also list and discuss potential difficulties a new team may
face when forming a diverse team. Last, we will discuss methods and tactics to overcome the
discussed difficulties.
The first advantage of a diverse team is that it creates a variety of different perspectives.
No two people have lived the same life. Their live experiences create different characteristics
and backgrounds which leads to a variety of skills. With that access a company can benefit
highly to planning and executing business strategy. The next advantage goes hand in hand with
the first. With diverse backgrounds and experiences creates different perspectives. Those
perspectives lead to increased creativity. When teammates see the same thing in different ways,
this will create a melting pot of fresh ideas, thus improving the creativity of the team. With an
improved creativity comes the ability for our next advantage, faster problem solving. Team
