Human trafficking is defined by Department of Homeland Security Blue Campaign as
“exploiting a person through force, fraud, or coercion.” It’s modern day slavery, and can be sex
trafficking, forced labor, or domestic servitude. It is a highly profitable crime worldwide
estimated $32 billion dollars per year and viewed as the third largest international crime
industry. It is a non-discriminatory crime and can happen to anyone, however women and girls
accumulate a much higher percentage. Trafficking has different types. The general population
sees it mostly as sex trafficking. Which is explained as an individual who is manipulated or

force, fraud or coercion. It can appear in many ways like factory work, farming, construction, or
manufacturing products we consume every day. Domestic servitude happens in plain sight.
Individuals are made into prisoners who work as nannies, maids, or domestic help. Often time’s
traffickers confiscate personal identification and travel papers to eliminate their idea of freedom.
