Cyber Security threats have become center stage for many organizations around
the world. Report of cyber security attacks have been on the rise and reports of attacks on
CAN (Continental National American Group). CNA is a financial insurance corporation
located in Chicago Illinois and is the seventh largest commercial financial insurance
company in the us according to the Insurance Information Institute. This confirms that
even the largest and seemingly most secure organizations are prone to cyber security
breaches.
In March of 2021, CNA reported that the company suffered from a cyber security
breach which affected approximately 75,000 of its customers around the world. According to
cyware.com/category/breaches-and-incidents-news, there was an investigation into the breach
which states that, "The investigation revealed that the threat actor accessed certain CNA
systems at various times from March 5, 2021 to March 21, 2021," CNA said in breach
notification letters mailed to affected customers today. During the March 5th time frame, a
limited amount of information was copied including, personal identifiable information and
other account information. Some of the information wad copied directly from the main office
of the Attorney General which is alarming and a cause for greater concern. Also, the breach
was not only to steal information, but ransomware was also deployed.
Based on the information gathered by the FBI and CNA investigators, the individuals
affecter were current employeses,
