TEACHER LANGUAGE

This part of the assignment is set to enable us to assess your language grading and concept checking.

You must use direct speech, e.g.'OK everyone, listen very carefully because I'm going to tell you what to do next.
On the wall there are pictures of 12 animals. On these orange cards (hold up a card) are the names of the
animals. I'll give everyone a card with some blu-tack (show back of card with a blob of blu-tack). Take your card
and stick it to the correct animal picture. Juan, what are you going to do with your orange card?'

You might need to put in some predicted student responses for the vocabulary teaching part.

N.B. If you do not use direct speech, you will be required to resubmit the whole assignment.

Give word for word the language you could use for:

A) Presenting 3 of your selected vocabulary items which would need to be concept checked,
Show how you would elicit, explain and concept check each of the three items.

Ok everyone, listen very carefully. Before we read the text, we will look at some items of
vocabulary that might be unknown to some of you. If we get to know them first, it will be easier for
you when you will be reading the text. I will show you a picture or tell you the definition of the
word and you will try to guess it.

Here is a picture of the first word (Exclusion). As you can see in the picture, it shows that a green
fish is not allowed to be included with other fishes. Do any of you have an idea how you would call
this situation? No? Could we say that a green fish is excluded from the group? Yes. The situation
we are describing here is Exclusion. Exclusion is an act of not allowing someone or something to
take part in an activity or to enter a place.
Exclusion is a noun and the pronunciation is /ɪkˈsklu:ʒən/. Exclusion has 3 syllables with the stress
on the second syllable -oOo.
Now let’s use the word ‘Exclusion’ in a sentence:
He is very angry at his exclusion from the meeting.
Have you ever faced any sort of exclusion? Yes/No.

The next item of vocabulary that we will look at is “Protest”. When people show or express their
disagreement on something, we call it a protest . Here is a picture of the protest that took place in
Brussels. As you can see in the picture, people have signs expressing what they want and showing
their disagreement with actions such as standing and shouting slogans.
Protest is a noun and the pronunciation is /ˈprəʊ.test/ with the stress on the first of 2 syllables-Oo.

Have you ever seen a protest? Yes/No
Have you been involved in a protest before? Yes/ No.
