T: okay class, if you look on the board I have two sentences:
(Write on board:
If I pass my exams
I’ll go to university)
T: what I need you to do is try and link up the sentences. Has anyone here learnt how to do this
before?
S: No ma’am.
T: How do you think this sentence would be linked up? Please write your answer down on your paper
and then we will go through your answers together.
T: Alright class, time is up. Let’s have a look at your answers! Who would like to have a try at this?
S: I think I might have an idea. If I pass my exams I’ll go to university.
T: well done, that is a very good guess! Now class, do you think there is any punctuation mark missing
in this sentence?
S: Is it a comma*?
T: Yes, a comma is missing. We will use a comma to link these two sentences together.
Write on board:
If I pass my exams, I’ll go to university.
T: If we look at this sentence, we can see there is an IF clause and a RESULT clause. Who can
guess which is which?
