Virtual Lab: DNA to Protein Replication, Transcription, and Translation Worksheet There are three websites for you to investigate that will teach you about base pairing and making proteins. Click through them to help your understanding of each process. DNA Replication DNA to Protein Protein Synthesis (click through to the end). Answer these questions (and turn in): 1. What is the function of DNA? The function of DNA is to contain the instructions needed for an organism to develop. 2. What is the function of mRNA? The function of mRNA is to carry the genetic information copied from DNA. 3. What is the function of tRNA? The function of tRNA is to decode mRNA sequences into a protein. 4. In what part of the cell is a protein molecule made? Protein molecules are made in ribosomes.

, 5. Why do you think there are equal amounts of cytosine and guanine, and equal
amounts of adenine and thymine in the DNA of a cell?
I think the bases have equal amounts of each because they mirror are linked with one
another, creating a message and eventually being translated.

6. What do you think would happen if there was an extra base deleted from the mRNA
code of a protein?
An extra base deleted or added would change the coding of the mRNA and would cause a
translation of a different protein, one that may be nonfunctional.
