1. Know the basic acronyms & abbreviations in the Tourism Industry
a. IATA – International Air Transport Association, is the trade association of
the world’s international airline industry. This is the umbrella organization of
all commercial airlines consists of 290 airlines in 120 countries around the
world.
b. SALCI – associated with MIASCOR which is generally partnered among
any universities in the Philippines to extend quality education in terms of
On-the-Job Training and this is Sky Aviation Learning Center.
c. MIASCOR – located in Ninoy Aquino International Airport, they are highly
competent and fully equipped IATA Ground Handling Council in the
Philippines, allowing OJT and it has a big warehouse with different cargos
in it. They are known as “your trusted partner on the ground” MIASCOR
operates namely in Manila, Cebu, Davao, Clark, Kalibo, Puerto Princesa,
and Palawan.
2. Effective Counter Counselling leads to counter sales is comprised of proposed
itineraries, and ensuring proper travel documentation is given. If not, then this will
give a bad reputation or chaos to the company. These transactions are the results
of providing information and recommending suitable and attractive products to the
clients.
It requires a lot of things that would include: to provide proper information
in counter counseling. Example. Our client wants to visit Tokyo
Disneyland on our end, as a Travel Agent if you are a Filipino citizen we
need a visa, our role is to remind our clients that they need to have
proper documentation prior to going out of the country otherwise from
the immigration they will be denied.
The Travel Agencies are the conduit or the channel to make the
process easy for the clients particularly in visa application. Chances are
the company will gain more clients if they meet the standard of each of
their clients.
According to our professor Mr. Poloyapoy, he said that Rajah Travel Agency is
one of the biggest Travel Agencies, and that the name of the company is one of
the most reputable travel agencies here in the Philippines.

We as a travel agent must know the products and services that our clients want
to. Why? Because their wants should be equal to what they expected.
Our main product is service; we will not be able to supply the needs of
our potential clients if our travel agents are not part of the process.
3. In Travel Management companies we have two clients

during the old times the one that is used is CRS which is Computerized
Reservation System to book an airline ticket. However, this system is limited
to one service, it can book only an airline ticket.
GDS (Global Distribution System) is a system that is widely used now by
most airlines and travel agencies since it is more advance and real-time. It
can book different kind of service industry namely Hotel rooms, transfer
services, Car rentals to give more detail we are all familiar with Shopee and
Lazada in this area they have different vendors providing products to their
client, it is the best example for this one since the GDS have numerous
supplier and vendors to render their service that is easier to book upon.
Example. From Caribbean going to Miami, you want to indulge in a cruise
reservation they can book that one for you.
5. Understand “Sector/Leg” when traveling, this is commonly heard when Cabin
Crew are on board.
This is used when a flight travel from one city/one airport to another
city/airport. “Sector is more popular in European Countries but here in Asia
we call that “Leg”
