What does Britain’s real class system look like?
Nowadays, the class system is alive in the UK with a little caste system. In
the class system, unlike the caste one, people can move down or up through the
classes depending on their hardworking and meritocracy. To highlight, the class
system gives us a sense of structure. If you put in all your efforts and hard-
working, you can swap classes these days. In general, it consists of three classes,
working, middle and upper. In the first place, people who are in the working
class are those who are good, solid, hardworking and warm. Furthermore, they
are generally close to their families, friends and they are quite happy people.
Andrew Neil mentioned that there is no working-class anymore. By the end of
industrial society, all the blue-working class disappeared and divided into two
groups. The major chunk of them moved to a white-color job (middle-class).
However, a large minority of them moved to the under-class where the lack of
jobs arises. In the second place, people from the middle class are those who drink
lots of coffee, think about holidays and having a nanny for children. Moreover,
they are more likely to pretend to be from an upper-class. In the middle class,
people are often more rigid in dancing than the workers. In the third place,
people who are more concerned about names are numbers, being super-rich,
wearing tweeds and suits are the ones in the upper-class. They basically end
up running the world. To sum up, the British class system is monolithic, rigid,
dividing, destructive and it is set up to enslave people in the compartments
that they are given from birth. In the end, it is important to know that your
situation does not determine what you are, your attitude does.
