Almost all women recognize this: you wake up and start the day with a look at social
media. You come across many posts and photos of beautiful models and women
with perfect curves and a beautiful face. You think how beautiful they are and start to
doubt yourself and your own body and face. And for today you are again dissatisfied
with yourself and walk around with this thought the whole day. Everywhere you see
perfect, beautiful women on television, magazines, social media and the internet.
You will start thinking about changing yourself. Many people do not realize that this is
becoming a bigger problem and that there is too much pressure on women to be this
beautiful. Because of this pressure, women also want to meet the beauty ideals and
start to change themselves, because they think they are not beautiful enough. In my
opinion, I think that this pressure on women should be reduced.
The definition of the ideal of beauty is what is considered the pinnacle of human
beauty. This can differ per culture. For example, women in Asia want to be pale,
while women in Western countries want to have a tan. The beauty ideals may differ
per culture, but the only similarity is that all women want to meet the beauty ideal that
applies in her culture. So all over the world there are women who are bothered by the
pressure to be beautiful. In today’s Western culture ideals often require women to be
slim, have full lips, defined jawline, narrow waist, long, thick, shiny hair etc. Most of
the women who deviate from these beauty models are found to be less attractive by
others, which also makes them doubt themselves.
The one-sided beauty image in the media reinforces the pressure on women to be
beautiful. To be beautiful, social media tells us what we need to be a beautiful & a
worthy person. Social media is causing more and more damage to young women.
Many instagram accounts, for example, promote photos of the perfectly formed
women. Others will start thinking that they are less attractive compared to these
models and influencers and will think that this ideal is the definition of being beautiful.
What many women don't know is that the most pictures are fake on social media.
The photos what celebrities, models and influencers are posting on the internet can
be virtually manipulated by creating an ideal that doesn't even exist. They can hide
