, 2.0 INTRODUCTION
In early 2020, the Coronavirus Disease 2019, also known as Covid-19, declared by the World
Health Organization as a global health emergency. Coronavirus is a newly discovered virus
is the reason behind this infectious disease. The way an individual is infected differs from that
of another individual. The majority of people who are infected will experience mild to
moderate illness and recover while not being hospitalized. This disease causes many people
to have a persistent fever, shortness of breath, and even to cause death. The most common
symptoms for someone affected by this disease are fever, dry cough, and tiredness. Other
individuals even have serious symptoms like having trouble breathing, having pressure in
the chest, and unable to speak or move. However, some infected individuals were
asymptomatic and non-infectious, which means they do not develop any symptoms and do
not feel unwell despite being infected.
In Malaysia, the first confirmed case was on 4th February 2020. The 41-year-old man
had just returned from Singapore and developed a fever and cough. He then was
quarantined at Sungai Buloh Hospital, Selangor to get treatment for the disease. Since then,
the Covid-19 case grew relatively slowly until a religious event took place at Sri Petaling,
Kuala Lumpur, which was attended by many people including those from abroad. The event
led to an exponential rise in Covid-19 cases. To reduce the rapid spread of the disease,
Movement Control Order (MCO) has been conducted throughout Malaysia after it was
specially announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
The MCO enforced by the government includes public and higher education
institutions, and skill training institutes nationwide must be closed. As the disease continues
to spread relentlessly and the MCO should be extended, the government has figured out the
best way for education or learning centre to continue without the spread of infection of this
virus. The Ministry of Higher Education has announced that all higher learning institutions will
be fully conducted online. These abrupt changes in the learning mode cause students to feel
stressed because online learning is not the same as face-to-face learning. It will trigger many
problems or obstacles that will make students feel fear, worry, and anxiety that will contribute
to stress and depression.
