In a sense I would agree with the statement that Impressionism marks the beginning of modern art, but after observation of the word modern, I am led to consider otherwise. A lot of times to understand the true meaning of a word it is good to look at its antonyms, "antiquated, archaic, dated, fusty, musty, oldfangled, old-fashioned, oldtime, out-of-date, passe" are all antonyms of the word modern according to MerriamWebster (Webster, 2019). If we take it to mean Impressionism was a new style then we can say that about something from every era that is still current today. Using the logic that I just mentioned could be applied to stained glass.
