Week 8 has arrived and it provides an excellent opportunity to reflect---to self reflect on your
leadership journey that started eight weeks ago. For the discussion provide a comprehensive
response to each of the following topics:
1. Based upon your learning experiences in NR 504, identify two areas that were new to you
regarding leadership and how will you use these two areas in your future professional nursing
practice area.
2. Speculate on how you could use the leadership concepts presented in NR 504 to guide your
final MSN practicum project.

Dr. Moyers and classmates,
The transformational leadership style is of great interest to me on how I can use it now
and in my future nursing practice. The nursing track I’m following is Healthcare Policy and the
career path I would like to get involved in is quality and process improvement, especially in
emergency services. Quality and process improvement is all about designing and testing changes
to continuously improve the quality and safety of health within organizations. The nursing roles
in quality and safety are leadership roles, such as chief quality officer, and transformational
leadership style encourages adaptation to change. The transformational leadership style allows
for the recognition of areas in which change is needed and guides change by inspiring followers
and creating a sense of commitment (Mennella, & Balderrama, 2017). Adopting the qualities of a
transformational leader will allow me to feel more comfortable and confident when engaging in
the development of healthcare policies, the ever-changing components of healthcare technology,
and the mentorship of new graduate nurses.
