The role of the muscular system is to provide locomotion
In human life, locomotion is determined by crawling, walking, skipping hopping running
and any other movement from one point to the other or within the body systems or organs
facilitated by the locomotory organs of the body. Like any other activity in human life,
locomotion is important because most of human needs satisfaction are facilitated by movement
from one point to the other. Therefore, without locomotion, satisfaction of some of the basic
human needs become a challenge.
One of the systems that is key in facilitation of locomotion is the muscular system. As an
imperative part of the human systems, the muscular system is composed of different muscles that
facilitate movement in different parts of the human body (Caon). The human muscles in the
muscular system are categorized into the skeletal, smooth and vascular muscles each performing
different functions in different parts and organs of the body.
The skeletal muscles are found in the legs, face, neck and other parts of the human body
such as the tendons and the bones. The skeletal muscles are characterized by their involuntary
nature; they are not controlled by the human body. As seen in the facilitation of movement of the
skeleton by the tendons, the skeletal muscles provide movement in other parts of the body
(Chapman). Unlike other muscles in the body, the skeletal muscles are striated and developed
purposely to support and provide movement in the body.
