SUBJECT: MECHATRONIC SYSTEM DESIGN
ASSIGNMENT TOPIC: DEVELOPMENT OF VENTILATOR AND DIALYSIS
MACHINE AS A MECHATRONIC SYSTEM:
VENTILATOR:
The Mechatronic Ventilator is a small robust portable ventilator which fills the
need for assistance in patient/personal ventilation that can be used away from a
hospital. It is designed to be simple, durable and easy to use to keep a person
breathing when access to a hospital is not quickly available.
This ventilation device is designed to be portable and can be used outside in
extreme climate conditions. It can be used for adults, children, and infants. A
pressure release valve is standard on child and infant models; optional on adult
models.
All models are complete with a reservoir bag and will connect to a portable oxygen
tank with tubing to the O2 port. All the components are latex free. The patient
contact components, such as the mask and hose and BV are inexpensive and
disposable. Or can be sterilized and re-used; sterilizing in an autoclave is required.
ADVANTAGES OF MECHATRONIC VENTILATORS
When a patient's breathing is being supported by the Mechatronic
Ventilator in a hospital, it can be connected to other medical equipment for
further diagnostic evaluation.
It has a patented swivel-connector medication port for use with an MDI or
syringe.
It has a manometer port.
It has an integrated PEEP connection; no adaptor necessary.
This ventilator comes with an internal Lithium battery that supplies two
hours of operation. During this time a patient can be transported to a
hospital by any means available.
, The supplied Lithium batteries can hold a full charge for more than a year
without any significant decrease in voltage. The charger for the Lithium
batteries is included.
The Mechatronic Ventilator can also be supplied with a larger external
Lithium battery for when longer operation is required such as an extended
patient transfer to hospital.
This larger external Lithium battery has up to 15 hours of power which may
be suitable for patient transfer by plane, air ambulance or search and rescue
events.
The Mechatronic Ventilator can be plugged into a 120-volt outlet, which is
common in North America, or 240-volt wall outlet, which is most common in
other countries.
Respiratory components are certified for medical use. Electrical and
electronic components are CSA, UL, CE certified. The mechanical motion
components are manufactured as per ISO9000 and ASME standards.
Range of accessories including 3M Hepa Filter, PEEP valve and intubation
tubes for adults, children and infants.
MECHATRONIC DIALYSIS
BACKGROUND :
Acute and chronic kidney failure, which can lead to death if untreated for several
days or weeks, is an illness that is as old as humanity itself. In early Rome and later
in the Middle Ages, treatments for uremia included the use of hot baths, sweating
therapies, bloodletting, and enemas. Current procedures for the treatment of
kidney failure include physical processes such as osmosis and diffusion, which are
widespread in nature and assist in the transport of water and dissolved
substances.
