The therapeutic effect is the expected or predicted
physiological response that a medication causes.
e.g. nitroglycerine reduces cardiac workload and
increases myocardial oxygen supply.
1. Palliative – relieves the symptoms of a disease but
does not affect the disease itself.
2. Curative- cures a disease condition
3. Supportive – supports body function until other
treatments or the body’s response can take over.
4. Substitutive – replaces body fluids or substances.
5. Chemotherapeutic – destroys malignant cells.
6. Restorative – returns the body to health.
