Name SOCW6361 Project: Part 4: Identification of a Policy Alternative What is the policy alternative? When an existing policy has failed to address the current situation, policymakers must compose other options to alleviate the problem (What is Alternative Policy., n.d.). This is when an alternative policy is created and put into place. Originally, the policy was the VA Mission Act. The VA Mission Act had both strengths and weaknesses to its agenda. This allowed for veterans to seek private health care assistance through their primary care provider outside of the VA (Federal policy on veterans, ., n.d.). Although, this policy has assisted the VA population to some capacity, there needs to be another policy alternative. This policy alternative would include assisting our veteran population in receiving fast and efficient health care services. This would involve eliminating the wait time overall through VA and primary health care services. Also, this policy alternative would include assisting veterans in receiving appropriate health care professional assistance during emergencies. The VA is offering assistance through health care professionals who are not as well trained to evaluate veterans during initial consultations (Vernon, A., 2019, July 31). The veterans seeking health care services should not be evaluate based off severity but instead provided the services from initial request. Society is obligated to provide access to basic quality health care for all individuals (Pro & Con Quotes: Should All Americans Have the Right (Be Entitled) to Health Care? - ProC., n.d.).
