REGULATORY AND TRADE BODIES
M4 Evaluate the roles of regulatory bodies, trade
association and ancillary organisations in the
aviation industry.

 Trade Associations
Trade associations is an organization founded and funded by the
business that operates in a specific industry. They have an
important role to play in helping companies become more
competitive, in promoting best practice, and framing effective
public policy and delivery. Their purpose is to set laws and
provide widespread knowledge to companies within a particular
industry. There are many types of trade associations (to promote
and support the interest of industry) such as:

o IATA (represents the airlines)
o ERA (E.U Regional airlines association)
o ACI (Airport council international)
o BATA (British air transport association also known as the
association of UK airlines)
o BBGA (British business and general aviation association)

Different organizations or associations make different laws to
carry out an efficient service for the welfare of the environment
as well as for the good of companies and people. For example:
IATA make specific terms/rules (codes) for the airlines and the
airport to minimize the confusion which can be created easily in
terms of their business. IATA makes rules/laws for security,
safety, and transportations as well as for the environment.

ACI was established in 1991 which stands for the airport. This
association makes a significant contribution to the travelling
public by advanced air transport which is safe, secure, efficient,

environmentally responsible, interests with the governments and
the international organizations such as ICAO, policies and
recommended practices for airports, develops standards, and
provides information and training opportunities to raise standards
around the world, as they is the only global trade representative
of the world's airports.

 Regulatory Bodies
Regulatory bodies basically mean the regulations and the
organisations involved in aviation. There are many key aviation
regulatory bodies, such as:

 HOME OFFICE (POLICE AND ANTI- TRANSEC)

The Home Office (HO) is a ministerial department of Her Majesty's
Government of the United Kingdom, responsible for immigration,
security and law and order. As such it is responsible for the police,
fire and rescue services, visas and immigration and the Security
Service.

 CCA (CIVIL AVIATION AUTHORITY)

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is responsible for the regulation
of aviation safety in the UK, determining policy for the use of
airspace, the economic regulation of Heathrow, Gatwick and
Stansted airports, the licensing and financial fitness of airlines
and the management of the ATOL financial protection scheme.

 DEPARTMENT FOR TRANSPORT (DFT-TRANSEC)

Maintaining high standards of safety and security in transport,
supporting the maritime sector by producing the overall strategy
and planning policy for ports in England and Wales, Setting
national aviation policy, working with airlines, airports, the Civil
Aviation Authority and NATS (the UK's air traffic service) is the
main responsibility of DFT in aviation industry.
