Introduction
The main issue of this paper is problem-solving and applying the six steps of the
problem-solving process to the above case scenario. On the question of what to do when faced
with a problem, brainstorming the problem and coming up with solutions seems to be the best
option. From the article “The Problem Solving Process”, problem-solving consists of six steps
that help in solving the problem. The six steps of the problem-solving process include the
definition of the problem, analysis of the problem, generation of possible solutions, analysis of
the solutions, choosing the best solutions, and planning the next steps, (The Global Development
Research Center). This paper describes each of these problem-solving steps, all applied to the
case scenario. Problem-solving is an essential skill in almost all aspects of everyday life, (Ortiz,
2020). The case scenario involves an employee who has worked for a certain company for 11
years. A competing company offers him a supervisor’s job after his recommendation by his
previous supervisor who works for the company. The job offer comes with a $15,000 salary
increment per year, car allowance, and pays for all relocation expenses. However, the
employee’s current company offers tuition reimbursement while the competing company does
not. The dilemma comes in where the employee is almost completing his bachelor’s degree, and
that the start date for the new job is during his final exam period for his bachelor’s degree.
Furthermore, all the supervisors in the new company have a Master’s degree and therefore the
employee will be expected to undertake a master’s program. The hardest part is that the
employee has furthered his education to increase his chances of being promoted at the current
company. Will they fire him after a few months, leaving him jobless since he cannot go back to
