COMMON METHOD USED IN RESEARCH
There are six well-common method used in psychological research. A knowledge
of this method will help one choose the most suitable way of getting the best
results of data and the most effective technique in a particular study.
Introspection – a method of self-analysis where in psychologist study
himself, record his feeling ,and experiences, analyze these, and later
interpret them. These methods is introduce by St. Augustine. Because the
study is based on personal experiences, the result may not very objective
and reliable.
Observation – the most widely used method in the study of behavior. These
are several kinds of observation: uncontrolled configuration. Its fundamental
principle states that the whole is more than the sum its part. Its places more
importance of the study of all over pattern of any experience than the
specific element which made it up. With its emphasis of the of human
behavior and perception and with the use of both introspection and
observation.
Life-history method – the extensive study of individuals by tracing the
development of particular behavior. Life-history methods are of the three
basic forms: the day book method , the clinical method and the biographical
method. The day book method sometimes called diary development, is a
careful recording of day to day activities. This is particularly used in child
study and development. The clinical method contains information
concerning the emotional and personality adjustment of the person. This is
also called the case history method. The biographical method is the analysis
of the records of the people lives as written by themselves or by others.
Survey method or Group method - used data obtained from respondent
through written questionnaires or interview. Respondent are chosen in order
to constitute a representative sample.
