Have you ever asked yourself the question how will the USA look
like in 100 years? Like many science-fiction stories, “The Hunger
Games” portrays a future in which the USA is transformed into a
new country, called Panem. Every year the Capitol of Panem
chooses 12 boys and 12 girls in their teens to go on a TV show called
"The Hunger Games", where the children fight to death and the
winner is the only one who managed to survive.
In the main roles are Jenifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and
Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark. Both actors were strong and
convincing in the central roles and gave memorable performances.
The scenes set in the Capitol and dealing with its peculiar characters
have a completely different tone than the scenes of conflict in the
Arena. The ruling class is painted in broad satire and bright colors.
Katniss and the other tributes are seen in earth-toned realism.
“The Hunger Games” is an effective entertainment, there is
something for everyone – action, science, architecture, nature and
even a love triangle. Although, I have one objection - we see too
many battles and not enough of the characters' way of thinking, no
one explicitly discusses the fairness of deadly combat between girl
children and 18-year-old men.
All in all, I think the film is a must see and I strongly
recommend it not only to every sci-fi fan but every film lover out
there.
