This is assignment 2 for TPN2601. I achieved 94% for this assignment and used the subjects Social Science and Mathamatics. This assignment is only for guidance purposes since I felt quite alone and was not sure if I was completing my assignment as per guidelines.

Use the observation schedule to note down your observations of the
following for each period:

Period 1

The classroom (e.g. is there enough seating, is it clean, etc.):
The classroom is clean, sanitised and seats are spaced out (according to COVID 19
regulations), adequate seating for learners.

The atmosphere (e.g. is it inviting, interesting, conducive to learning, well-
resourced or
not, etc.):
The atmosphere is conducive to learning, with some resources available. It is tidy. Even
though teachers have to decorate classes with their own finances, she has ensured that
there are bright curtains on they bottom part of the windows to block some of the sun out.
All basic requirements for learning are available.

The subject:
Social Science

The teaching approach (e.g. direct instruction, interactive learning, etc) and
how learners respond to this:
The direct instruction approach has been followed. The lesson has already been written
on the board for the learners and they could just copy it into their books after it was
presented (explained). Learners responded well and enjoyed the lesson.

The expectations the teacher has of learners (how they must enter, where
they must sit, what they may or may not do, how they may participate) and
how learners respond to this:
The teacher expects learners to behave in an orderly manner. The teacher welcome
learners at the door and sanitises their hands. Desks have been allocated to learners and
they proceed in an orderly manner to it. Learners are aware they should maintain social
distancing; however, they forget it at times. Overall, learners know what is expected of
them and they respond positively to teacher expectations.

Time spent on task (how much of the period is used for teaching and
learning) and what
learners do if there is time left:
Each period is 40 minutes. The first 20 minutes was used to teach and explain the lesson.
Learners were given 5 minutes to discuss the topic and to ask questions. Learners
started on their activity the last 15 minutes and the requirement were explained.

Learner interactions:
The teacher went through the lesson, they followed in the workbook. When she stopped,
the learners proceeded out loud, say what they think. She cleverly checked
understanding by rotating questions to allow everybody to answer questions and
correct/explain where needed. Time for questions was also allowed.

Learner behaviour in general:
Learners are disciplined and eagerly listened to the lesson. They participated well and in
a respectful manner.

Learners observed/ Class:
I observed the learners in the class of Teacher L Wymers.

Grade:
4

Period 2

The classroom (e.g. is there enough seating, is it clean, etc.):
Due to lockdown, the class has been divided in two and the groups alternate to attend
(attending every second day) but the school only adjourned at 15:00 in the afternoon.
There is enough seating, books and stationery for learners attending. The classroom is
clean and smells fresh.
