QUESTION 1 Four activities involved in the General Model of Planned Change (Cummings & Donovan 2020) 1) Entering & Contracting: 1.1) These events help managers decide whether they want to engage further in a planned change programme and commit resources to the process 1.2)Entering involves gathering initial data to understand the problems facing the organisation 1.3)Problems or opportunities are discussed to develop a contract to engage in planned change 1.4)The contract spells out future change activities, the resources and how members will be involved Example: • The company is facing an issue of outgrowing its own organisational structure and lack of skill set to drive the process and growth. • We see in the case study, CEO of Alive (Pty) Ltd contacted director of Quest (Pty) Ltd to assist with redesigning the organisation and improve supporting process. • Through detailed analysis of company structures and systems, the Quest OD team was able to understand the problems facing Alive (Pty) Ltd and subsequently entered into an OD relationship to engage in further planned change. 2) Diagnosing: 2.1) Here the client system is carefully studied 2.2)Diagnosis can focus on understanding organisational problems or on stories about the organisations’ positive attributes 2.3)The process includes choosing an appropriate model for gathering, analysing, and feeding back information to managers about the problems/opportunities that exist 2.4)Diagnostic models can be used to explore organisation issues, group level issues and individual level issues.
