Forman Christian College University
Course Code: Psyc 315
Course Title: Cognitive Psychology
, 2
Methods
Participants
From our population of Forman Christian College University students, we chose a sample of
students (mean age: 21.63 years) who had taken the Psychology 315 course in Spring 2020
(39) and Fall 2020 (26). 68 participants were recruited to take part, out of which three
participants could not show up on the day of the study, which left us with 65 participants in
total. Of the participants, 15 were male and 50 were females.

Materials
The main material that was part of our study was the Stroop test which was accessed online
("Stroop Effect", 2020). The Stroop test included two conditions of 25 words each which
were all names of colors and were written in different colored inks. In Condition 1, names of
the color and the color of the ink were the same for instance, the word ‘Green’ was written in
green ink. While in condition 2, the name of the color and the color of the ink were different
for instance, ‘Brown’ was written in orange ink. In the original study this Condition 2 was
described as “Naming color or word test where the color of the print and the word are
different”(Stroop, 1935).
The Stroop test included a self-timer to record the time it took to read each condition. This
way participants did not have to manually observe their time which would have increased the
probability of error.
