Introduction
Health remains a major priority of most governments across the world. Ensuring that the
people of a specific region or country are healthy is critical towards economic development and
sustainability. However, the health status of a community and especially that of a given family,
which is considered a basic unit in the community is significantly influenced by the social
factors. These are social factors which determine how we interpret and perceive issues in society
as well as how we relate and consume healthcare. While certain social factors encourage healthy
living, others can hurt health depending on how individuals perceive them (Kim, et al., 2019).
We shall analyze the social determinants of health in the interviewed family to determine how
they impact their health choices.
Social Determinates of Health that affect the Family Health Status
One of the social health determinants in the case of the interviewed family is religion and
spirituality. According to Kaakinen, et al. (2018), religion and spirituality are factors that
influence the quality of family life. Many fundamental family beliefs are founded un religion and
spirituality, and the two appear to serve as powerful protectors embraced by resilient families.
From the interview, it came out that the family observes strict religious concepts based on
traditional values and beliefs. This means that the views help by the religion or denomination
that the family adhere to will have a significant impact on their choices on how to consume
healthcare. Other social determinants of health are culture and race (Brown, 2017). The culture
we adhere to and the race we come from has a significant influence on how we consume
