It is important to identify relationships between events that happened in the past and modern safety management practices that are implemented to enhance safety in the workplace. (2)What is the nature of safety hazards? a. A safety hazard must be tangible, and it can interact with other material. If something is a safety hazard once, it will always be a safety hazard. (3)What is the study object of safety management? a. The study objective of safety management is to focus on the interaction of safety hazards and the exchange of energy. Safety management as a science allows for the application of scientific principles and methods to analyse and solve problems. (4)What is the origin of safety risks? a. When safety hazards interact, some form of energy exchange occurs. The exchange of energy creates threats. Which can result in loss to people and the environment. These threats are called safety risks. It is only when safety hazards make contact, interact and exchange energy that safety risks are generated. If these requirements are not met, no safety risk originates. (5)What are the basic safety responsibilities of employers and employees? a. Employers are responsible for providing a safe working environment, providing and maintaining safe facilities, equipment and working systems. Employers also need to perform safety risk assessments and provide control measures and develop and maintain employee competence. Furthermore, employers need to provide all the necessary safety equipment, enforce legal safety requirements, report and analyse occupational incidents, manage safety and improve safety management continually. The basic legal responsibilities of employees in terms of safety management is to take care of the health and safety for themselves and for their colleagues, to cooperate with employers and managers and to obey all valid safety related orders. Employees are further responsible for the reporting of unsafe conditions and safety incidents and to behave respectfully at all times. The OHS Act also prescribe
