Maternal Newborn Retake 1 Assessment and Management of Newborn Complications: Priority Finding that Requires Further Assessment (RM MN RN 11.0 Chapter 27 Assessment and Management of Newborn Complications, ACTIVE Learning Template: Basic Concept)
A baby that has been born during the duration of 20 to 37 weeks of gestation are considered preterm newborns and require a little bit more assessment and attention versus babies that are born full-term. They require extra observation and assistant due to the simple fact that they are not full developed or have certain vital organs that have not developed properly due to the fact they were born sooner than later. Similar to almost every human being, the cardiac and respiratory systems are going to be the very first most important organs to be monitored prior to and upon delivery. When babies are born prior to the 37 weeks of gestation, they typically are transferred and cared for on an NICU unit. They are monitored, cared for, assessed and not released until they observe the baby to be able to receive oral feedings, maintains a healthy and consistent body temperature and weight a minimum of 4.4 pounds
