REINFORCE CONCRETE FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING EXAM
FINAL EXAM – AY 2018-2019
DIRECTION: This is a 100 points exam. Show your complete solution on a clean bond paper. Box your final answer.
PROBLEM 1
A reinforced concrete T-beam has a span of 9m. It has an effective width in floor slab system of 750
mm. The slab system is fixed at both ends. Thickness of slab is 100mm. The beam is reinforced as shown
in the figure. Diameter of stirrups used is 10 mm placed at a spacing of 150 mm on centers throughout
the beam f’⸲ = 20.7 MPa, fy = 415 MPa.
a. Determine the location of the neutral axis from the top fibers of concrete for section A-A.
b. Determine the stress in the compression steel at the negative moment at section A-A.
c. Determine the max. uniform factored load at the beam can sustained as governed by the
flexural capacity of section A-A.
15 POINTS
, PROBLEM 2
A short column is subjected to factored axial load of 4000 KN, f’⸲ = 27.6 MPa, fy = 415MPa.
1. If the column is circular spiral column which outside diameter of 500 mm, determine the max.
moment that can act without affecting the design for pure axial loading.
2. If the column is a circular spiral with an outside diameter of 450 mm and the diameter of the
spiral wire is 10 mm ᶲ, determine the max. spiral pitch if the diameter of the longitudinal bar is
25 mmᶲ.
3. If the column is a circular spiral column with an outside diameter of 500 mm, determine the
required area of steel.
