Course Title: Educational Psychology
Dear Students,
First of read a chapter of classroom management techniques then make a plan for any
class /grade for effective classroom management by following some important indicators
Total marks: 20
1-student's development level or student's characteristics 2 marks
Elementary, Grade 4
Fourth grade students are very enthusiastic learners, they enjoy coming to school, they are
susceptible to disputes between friends, mixed gender friendships are rare, great sense of
competition especially between boys and girls, complain very often about different things,
feel hungry multiple times in the day, always want breaks, cannot sit still for long, very easily
caught by surprise with new information, curious, beginning to see the world somewhat
critically, very observant, are hurt easily, might easily say inappropriate things, very
responsive even if they are being irrelevant, still developing handwriting, may get tired and
bored easily, slouching and fidgeting is very common, always find ways to get out of the
classroom, they want to learn through new ways and love being outdoors, are highly
encouraged with appreciation, do not like routines and always want to try out new activities.
2-classroom management style 3 marks
The effective classroom management style for fourth graders will be authoritarian. Their
development is such that they desire some independence and are required to be monitored or
else the classroom might just be a mess. They will have freedom to ask questions whenever
they want to, they will have the freedom to voice their opinions, they will even have the
freedom to make jokes and be part of discussions however it is to be ensured that it is all
timely and not a distraction to the lesson. Questions and opinions will be put forward along
with maintaining discipline. The students must know they share the classroom with the
teacher but the teacher will always have a higher percentage of hold in the class. This way
they will not be shunned and order will be maintained.
The authoritative style will not be appropriate because fourth graders do not enjoy working or
learning with a figure who is controlling them constantly or else they tend to rebel, keep
grudges or get hurt. Which means their optimum development level is hampered. The
permissive style is also not appropriate because fourth graders cannot yet work all by
themselves, they need someone to keep them on track, they need guidance, they need to be
critiqued to be kept aligned.
3-Creating, teaching and maintain rules and procedures. 3 marks
