The influence of technology The ways in which medications are prescribed, dispensed, and administered is rapidly changing and technology is offering convenience to patients, as a result medication can be dispensed quicker. The use of cloud-based electronic software and robotic technology to dispense medication has led to a need for fewer employees and a saving for both pharmaceuticals and the Department of Health. The introduction of technology has improved patient safety and ensuring that it is always a key focus. Through automated dispensing machines/ robotics, medication distribution systems that provide computer-controlled storage, dispensing, and tracking of medication is seen as a potential mechanism to improve efficiency and patient safety. Technology has without a doubt ensured that these machines can enhance the efficiency of medication distribution and reduce medication errors. Automated dispensing machines offers the department the capability to track and proactively monitor usage patterns that has shown an improvement on adherence by patients. Examples: As a result of technology, service & access to medication has improved, and the department of health can offer faster and better service quality to the community of Alexander. Medication can be dispensed within 3 minutes instead of customers standing in long queues. Convenience ensures that patients adhere to the medication Medicine is dispensed by following a simple process of scanning barcoded IDs, pharmacy card and entering a pin. The process is meant to assess waste, establish standards, and continuously improve. It is a repetitive framework of constant engagement and discovery, developed to describe all the business activities associated with the phases of satisfying a customer. Supply chain operations reference model (SCOR) is a management tool used to address, improve, and communicate supply chain management decisions within a company and with suppliers and customers of a company. The model describes the business processes required to satisfy a customer’s demands. It also helps to explain the processes along the entire supply chain and provides a basis for how to improve those processes (Wisner, 2016)
