Bullshit: How to manipulate a presidential election
This paper has been written by (naam), an (studie) student studying at the
Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. The paper is written for the Minor
Big Data and takes the 2016 United States Presidential Election as a case study
to underly the fundamental importance and dangers of fake news and
disinformation. This is achieved by several steps: defining fake news and
disinformation, explaining who benefits from fake and biased information, explain
the Cambridge Analytica fiasco and diving deeper in the impact of the 2016 U.S.
Presidential Elections.
METHODOLOGY
In order to obtain a solid understanding of the abovementioned cases, it is
imperative to make use of secondary research using peer reviewed articles and
information from the “Calling Bullshit” course conducted at the University of
Washington.
ORGANIZATION OF REPORT
The first chapter defines key terms that need to be understood in order to fully
grasp the theoretical framework. The second chapter describes why being aware
of bullshit is important and why it matters. The third chapter explains who the
benefactors are of spreading bullshit. The fourth chapter uses a case study as an
example to outline the impact this can have on society.
