Individuals with a dominant internal locus of control believe that they can affect their environments and that they can better that environment through good choices. An individual whose responses reflect this is what we are looking for, however we must be careful that they are not too confident, as they need to leave room to learn. An individual that is too arrogant will not be willing to self –evaluate and make the changes needed for the next problem solving endeavour. STATEMENT A: our future is what we make it; we decide how far we will get in life, what jobs we will take and what friends we will make. They made these decisions to be where they are and strive to further themselves within the industry they have chosen. This is based also on the locus of control idea. That if you believe you control your life you are more likely to make decisions with thoughts of the future. If you believe everything is due to fate and timing, you are more likely to leave your job when something better comes along. When hiring someone with a high internal locus of control, it can be detrimental. If the person’s internal locus of control is too dominant, they can end up taking all failures very personally and result in them feeling overly anxious, or even depressed. This is not conducive to productive behaviour. Therefore this question is to determine how much responsibility the individual takes on. Can they recognise that they can control their environment to a certain extent, but that not all failures can be their fault alone? We need the individual to have a dominant internal locus of control, but still capable of understanding that their environment can influence their lives in certain ways.
