Cellulitis developed around the wound, and he was admitted for IV antibiotics and monitoring. Kyle is anxious to get home and return to work. He is worried that his boss will not be understanding about his injury. His wife Sarah is present and is also concerned about Kyle’s ability to return to work. General • “My birthday is December 27.” • “I don’t have any allergies.” During initial assessment • “My arm looks better. It’s not as red as it was yesterday. I can move it without much pain.” • “I feel pretty good today. The chills are gone. Do you think I can I go back to work soon?” • “Will I have to take medication when I go home?” • “My pain level is 2 out of 10. My arm is still a little tender, but it’s much better than yesterday.” • “I don’t need any pain medication.” • “When I got the puncture wound, it didn’t hurt much so I didn’t clean it. Is that why it got infected?” When nutrition services calls for Kyle’s breakfast selections • “I’ll have the regular breakfast tray with coffee and orange juice.” When Kyle’s boss calls for a status update Kyle is nervous. • “I don’t want to talk to him. I’d rather not give any information to my boss. Please don’t tell him anything.” • “I don’t want him to know that I have an infection in my arm.” • “I could lose my job if he thinks I can’t work hard.”
If the provider is updated Kyle is grateful. • “I’m looking forward to going home. Thanks for your help.”
• “After I go home, how will I know if the infection comes back?” If the provider is NOT updated Kyle is anxious.
• “I thought my doctor was coming in today.” • “When will my doctor be in? I really need to go home and get back to work.” If a therapeutic environment is maintained Kyle is calm and at ease. • “Thanks for your help. I am looking forward to going home today.” If a therapeutic environment is NOT maintained Kyle’s anxiety increases. • “Boy, this place is busy. Is it always like this?” • “All this commotion makes me nervous.” • “Do you need some help? It seems like there is a lot going on.”This study source was downloaded by 100000827876992 from CourseHero.com on 10-08-2021 03:24:57 GMT -05:00

CourseHero.com Nutrition Services Worker The nutrition services worker calls or enters the patient’s room during the first 3 to 5 minutes of the scenario to request Kyle Miller’s breakfast selections. This inquiry is meant to be a distracter. The student is expected to politely address the nutrition services worker’s question while prioritizing the patient’s immediate needs. If the student delegates the inquiry, the nutrition services worker can talk to the patient, the wife, or another health care worker. Note: If the nutrition services worker enters the patient’s room, suggested props include a uniform shirt, clipboard, pen, and paper for breakfast selection notes.
Question • “What is Kyle Miller’s breakfast order for this morning?” If asked to call back later • “I’m sorry. If we don’t get this order in now, he will miss breakfast.” If provided with the meal selections • “Thank you. We will have it sent up soon.”This study source was downloaded by 100000827876992 from CourseHero.com on 10-08-2021 03:24:57 GMT -05:00
