PHI FPX3200 Assessment3 PHI-FPX3200 Withholding Life Support PHI-FPX3200 Ethics in Health Care Capella University Directives of the Patient Mr. Martinez is a seventy-five-year-old male diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). During his latest hospitalization due to an upper respiratory tract infection, Mr. Martinez and his wife made the medical staff aware that he does not want any life- saving actions to occur should CPR be required and a DNR order was written in his charts. This DNR order implies that no basic or advanced actions will be taken on Mr. Martinez should he experience respiratory distress or cardiac arrest. A patient may elect to complete a DNR order when their health begins to fail, but may also inform their physician earlier in their care that they do not want to be resuscitated, even if the physician s judgement determines that CPR would be justified if performed
