TOURISM PRODUCTS
The tourism industry is a service industry that provides products to tourists. These products are
nothing but services, where service product refers to an activity or a set of activities that a
marketer offers to perform, resulting in the satisfaction of a need of the customer or the target
market. Tourism products are products that fulfill or satisfy the customer’s leisure, pleasure or
business needs at places other than their own places of residents. Tourism products include
products and services that tourists consume when traveling to or at a given destination.
All the tourism products should be properly preserved and promoted as they help in
earning revenue for the destination.
COMPONENTS OF TOURISM PRODUCTS
A) Attraction
Attraction is the main component of tourism. It is a very important element that determines
the choice made by a tourist to travel to a particular place rather than another place or
destination. It may include man-made such as historical buildings and monuments,
festivals, sports, events, or natural such as lakes, mountains, parks, caves and rivers.
B) Accessibility
Accessibility is defined as means by which a person or a tourist can travel or reach to
particular destination. Tourist always looks up to a mode or means of transport in order to
reach that particular destination. Mode of transportation can be a coach, a car, an
airplane, a ship and a train that can enable a tourist to visit his/her desired destination.
Therefore, destinations which have inadequate transportation services are likely to turn
into little value.
C) Accommodation
Accommodation is an element within the destination or related to tour, which someone may
stay and is important to any tourists who want to travel to another destination such as hotels,
caravan parks, and camp sites. UNWTO defines a tourist as a person who travels to a new
place from his place of origin and must spend at least 24 hours at a particular destination,
which tells about the importance of accommodation facilities at a different destination.
D) Amenities
Amenities are all necessary services and facilities added with attraction, accommodation and
accessibility to create tourism to make the tourists feel comfortable in their travel such as banks,
post offices, shops, care hire, etc.
