These skills and abilities is vital for a learner when the have to survive life after the educational presses in the “real” world. 4.3.2 Cooperative learning [3] Cooperative learning is an effective teaching method in educating Life skills because it learns and develop the learners’ ability and skills to work together to accomplish shared goals. During cooperative learning learners work together in small instructional use of groups that causes students to work together to maximize their own and each other’s learning. This method of teaching learns and develop the learners’ ability and skills to encourage and assist each other to understand the work and the task at hand. 4.3.3 Group discussions [3] Group discussions is an effective teaching method in educating Life skills because it learns and develop the learners’ ability and skills to communicate with other peers and people, as well as the ability and skills to work with other peers and people to complete a task. The timid become more confident and assertive while discussing and issue, and the dominant learn to listen. Thus I do agree with Lindhard and Dlamini’s (1990:23) statement: “When your students have done group discussions for five or six times, you will find a vast improvement in the qualities of the answer, the speed which they organise themselves, and the quality of their joint thinking, because they stimulate one another mentally.” ETH203Q CHRIS LOMBARD 9 4.3.4 Buzz groups [3] Buzz groups is an effective teaching method in educating Life skills because it learns and develop the learners’ ability and skills to discuss ideas with another peer, to combine and build on different views or ideas of other, to listen to other’s opinion, not the criticise any ideas and not to evaluate any ideas. 4.3.5 Questionnaires [3] Questionnaires is an effective teaching method in educating Life skills because it learns and develop the learner’s ability and skills to self-analyse, values and maturity when it comes to more personal matters during their lifespan. These type of skills and abilities are vital for survival in the “real world” because a person need the skills and ability to analyse a situation before solving the problem or situation one is in.
