Lecture 1
Objectives of this course:
Three perspectives:
1. What can be done – The Possible – TECHNOLOGY
2. What may be done – The Permissible – LAW
3. What should be done – The Desirable – ETHICS
There are 2 angles on technology & law:
Definition of technology -> extension of human capabilities
- New machinery and equipment that has been developed using scientific knowledge or
processes
- The broad range of tools and crafts that people use to change or adapt to their
environment.
Emerging technologies
Emerging technologies are technologies that already exist or technologies that are just invented
which reshape the present environment. Emerging technologies can create jobs, but it can also
neglect jobs. It has both pros and cons.
These technology doesn’t have to be new. Machine learning for example is very old, but it is an
emerging technology because it is renewing itself and is now used in the most advances present
technologies.
