PROJECT THREE CJ-205
PROJECT THREE CJ-205 Many of us believe that if we could take care of the problem of homelessness in LA and all around the world, of them being out on the streets is as simple as the police coming and ordering the homeless to pick up their things and leave. For the community plan to work there must be a strong trust and cooperation between the community of Los Angeles, the homeless population of Skid row and the police department that serves them both. The issue of public trust can come from either side in the community. The homeless do not trust police due to years of harassment and hassle trying to get them to comply with the then current laws and regulations. (SNHU, 2020) The distrust arises now from the years of harassment of the homeless by police, but we now need to take into consideration the political climate in which we operate in. It is easy to see that coming together in a way that is mutually acceptable to both the police department and the Los Angeles citizens and Los Angeles business owners most adversely affected by the homeless in the streets where their businesses are is unlikely. Seventy-five percent of the homeless on Skid Row are African American which makes the distrust of police even greater. To gain trust, community meetings need to take place that includes the homeless, the community of LA and the police department. It can also come from the community at large feeling as if the police have not done enough to help rid their community of the plight of the homeless on skid row. To re-build that trust from both side we need to listen to the needs of each side and come to an accord that will work for both sides
