FIN4801 Assignment 5 2020 This assignment is based on learning units 15 to 17.  Remember to submit before the due date. No late submissions will be allowed without a doctor’s note or similar proof. If you submit after the due date without such evidence, you will get zero for the assignment. You should communicate with me regarding your intention to submit late, preferably with proof, before the due date if you are able to do so.  If you have circumstances preventing you from submitting, you need to get in contact before the due date if it’s not a medical, work, family or other type of issue that you can obtain proof for.  This assignment contributes 30% towards your year-mark.  You have to use the provided template for your submission. The template will be made available soon, but for now you should start working on the assignment and then copy your answers to the template at a later stage.  Please fill in your answers on the template carefully in the correct spaces and then save the document as a PDF before you submit.  Should you not be able to type out your answers in the provided template, you need to communicate with me before the submission date. The COVID-19 situation may prevent access to computers and services for some, so please let me know if it affects you before submitting, or not submitting, we can work around most problems in exceptional circumstances. We are flexible around the difficult circumstances some are studying under. Most students however have access to computers at home and through your myLife account you have access to Office 365, which you should use to fill in the template in MS Word.  The assignment is meant to be your own work and we will run plagiarism detection on your submission. If you are found to be infringing on the academic integrity policy of the university (see your student rules please), your submission will be sent to the student disciplinary office for action together with evidence. It may seem easier to copy answers, but in the long run, it is for your own benefit to do the assignments and master the outcomes of the module before the examination.  Calculation based questions are done in the same manner as shown in the textbook. The template also conforms to this style for the leasing question. I want you to use the incremental approach in this part of the module because of the numerous, many (too many to count), mistakes I have seen over the past seven years of being involved in this module. Oftentimes, when a separated approach is used, cash flows are taken into account twice, using the incremental approach negates the possibility of this happening. There are other methods that work well, and in the examination you can use them if you prefer, but for the assignment we will only allow for the incremental method as in the textbook. This is not to stifle you, but to make sure you are familiar with both ways of showing your calculations and can then choose the one you prefer after this assignment.  Where you have to only type out answers and not do calculations, you need not type a multi- page long response, be as brief as possible without leaving anything out.  Answer all the questions, even if you are unsure about some of the work, oftentimes you know more than you think.
