With this statement in mind, do the following: 2.1.1) Two ultimate purpose of assessment. Assessment informs learners on their progress. When an assessment is done effectively, learners get a sense of where they are in their learning and what they do not yet know. This way they can also identify their strengths and weaknesses. Assessment also drives learning. It should help learners understand what they are expected to do and to identify areas where they should spend more time on. Assessment is used to gather relevant information about student progress and performance. To make judgements about student’s learning process and what their interests are. 2.1.2) Four ultimate purposes of assessment. Summative assessment which takes place at the end of a learning module or course helps the teacher to see whether the learners have achieved all learning goals and outcomes. Assessment improves learning and teaching. Without assessment a teacher can not tell whether learners have grasped the concepts. The assessment provides feedback and support. Continious assessment tests assists in providing constant feedback. Accounting to parents. Teachers found it easy to explain to parents about the performance of their child using assessment results.
