His outlook on Johannesburg is one that is a gloomy and hostile city whose inhabitants are occupied with materialism and animosity. Even though, the poet describes Johannesburg as his city, he does not trust or belief that the city does any good for its people. This essay will thus analyze the diction, imagery and other features of language used in the poem to explore the poets’ attitude towards ‘Johannesburg.’
