UNIT: ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Purpose of the Course:
Introduce students to the theories, concepts and principles of organizations and their applications
in resolving management and business issues.
Course Description
The course focuses on the nature of organizations, theories of organizations and management,
organizations as systems, organizational design and structure, the organizational environment,
power and politics in organizations, organizational change and development, organizational
conflict and organizational effectiveness.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the course the learner should be able to:
Explain the concepts of organization and organization theory
Distinguish between management theory and organization theory
Trace the historical development or organizational theory
Use system approach to describe how organizations operate
Define organizational development (OD) and explain steps and techniques used during
OD interventions.
