It is best that mothers on ARVs for HIV-infection breastfeed their babies exclusively until they are 6 months old. The mother should then continue with breastfeeding for another 6 months while introducing complementary foods. When the baby is 12 months old, breastfeeding can be stopped but it should be a gradual process taking place over one month. Based on the data analysis for the Early Completion Programme, we would like you to note the following: 1. Carefully read each question as well as all the alternatives. Make sure what is being asked, and also that your alternative of choice, indeed answers the question. 2. When you are instructed to select all the correct options, there will always be more than one correct alternative. 3. When a question has an (a) and (b) part, make sure that you agree with both the (a) and (b) parts of the alternative that you select. Many students seem to read only the first alternatives before they select their answers. 4. We test knowledge and application, therefore: Ensure that you are familiar with the terminology used in the prescribed book. Study the content outlined in the syllabus – reading through the content and relying on your intuition will not help to pass this module. 4. The online exam The Oct/Nov exam is a timed, online, non-venue based examination. Therefore, you will only have two hours (timed) to complete the exam, write the exam using an internet-based platform such as myExams (online), and not in an allocated examination venue but in a venue of your own choice (non-venue based) such as at home or in your office. A mock exam will be written so that you can familiarise yourself with the exam platform before you take on the actual exam. Please look out for announcements in this regard. What can I expect on the day of the exam? The exam will consist of 70 multiple-choice questions for which 2 hours will be allowed. During the exam, the lecturing team will be available to assist you either in the discussion portal or in the chat portal. We will also pre-post solutions for challenges that are typically encountered during the exam. Alternatively, you can direct enquiries to the Student Communication Service Centre via or . At this stage, we should mention that the July exam for the ECP students went very well and minimal challenges were experienced. The most notable challenge was that students thought that the auto-submission of answers after the 2 hour exam limit, was the system that kicked them off. Please remember that after 2 hours, when your time is over, the system will autosubmit your answers – nothing will be lost. You will find it difficult to navigate the screen on a cellphone. Cellphones are also more vulnerable to occurrences of dropped Internet connections. DO NOT use a cellphone. Please start immediately to make an alternative arrangement if you only have a cellphone at this stage. You will be required to be online for the full duration of the examination, or until you have submitted your answers. Make sure that alternative arrangements are in place should you be scheduled for load shedding. Also, make sure that your device is fully charged before the examination. If you experience a technical problem during the examination, you need to log out 10 and log back in to resume the assessment. If you open another browser window without a proper logout action, the Online Assessment tool will report that as a discrepancy and could refuse the resumption of the assessment. The system runs in your browser and the browser contains some aspects of the functionality of the system. If you experience problems, save, and exit the browser and then log on again. Although Unisa examination systems are set up to maintain contact with your browser for lengthy periods of time we do not have control over your browser settings and the settings on proxy servers that relay your contact to Unisa. Some of these may have short time-out intervals. Make sure you maintain a dedicated environment on the computing device you use for the examination (e.g. never open more than one browser and refrain from opening multiple browser windows; close other programmes including email) International students will have to adhere to the scheduled South African time. We require you to write at the scheduled time regardless of where in the world (and what time) you find yourself. The examination paper opens and then closes for everyone at the same time.
