GGH2604 (People and the Natural Environment: Use and Impacts) ASSIGNMENT.
GGH2604 (People and the Natural Environment: Use and Impacts) ASSIGNMENT. Anthropocene emerges as a geological term and environmental analytic and Anthropocene is not only a concept of time but also a concept of space framed by a sense of inhabiting an environmental predicament that humans have made, (Olson and Messeri, 2015). Anthropocene and planetary boundaries concepts are the progeny of certain biophysical scientists, some human geographers are already going beyond the science to explore the socio-ecological implications (Castree, 2014). Anthropocene, proposed and increasingly employed to denote the current interval of anthropogenic global environmental change and Epoch, the Anthropocene is because of the global environmental effects of increased human population and economic development. From the beginning of the Industrial Revolution to the present day, global human population has climbed rapidly from under a billion to its current and it continues to rise. The exploitation of coal, oil, and gas in particular has enabled planet-wide industrialization, construction, and mass transport, the ensuing changes encompassing a wide variety of phenomena (Zalasiewicz, 2008). 2. Evidence of Anthropocene Anthropocene now appears in a variety of narratives as a term that points not just to the start of a new geological era but to the emergence of a new physical and conceptual space within which to know and act on the future of This study source was downloaded by from CourseH on :11:52 GMT -06:00 This study resource was shared via CourseH human being, dwelling, and relating and is not only a concept of time but also a concept of space framed by a sense of inhabiting an environmental predicament that humans have made and now exist inside. And therefore Anthropocene concept is over determined by anthropic relations with inner environment and underdetermined by anthropic relations with outer environment (Olson and Messeri, 2015). According to Zalasiewicz (2008) human activities have caused a lot of changes on the outer environment such as mentioned below: Changes to Physical Sedimentation Humans have caused a dramatic increase in erosion and the denudation of the continents, both directly, through agriculture and construction, and indirectly, by damming most major rivers, that now exceeds natural sediment production by an order of magnitude. Carbon Cycle Perturbation and Temperature Carbon dioxide levels (412.60 ppm as recorded the highest so far, May 2018) are over a third higher than in pre-industrial times. Methane concentrations in the atmosphere have already roughly doubled. These changes have been considerably more rapid than those associated with glacial-interglacial transitions. Global temperature has lagged behind this increase in greenhouse gases levels, perhaps as a result of industrially derived sulphate aerosols.
