Indirect speech
Gebruik: wanneer je iets wil vertellen wat iemand anders heeft gezegd.
Voorbeeld: ‘Jim isn’t at home’
She said that Jim wasn’t at home.

Past perfect
Gebruik: om aan te tonen dat de ene gebeurtenis plaatsvond voor de andere.
Formule: had + voltooid deelwoord
Het maakt niet uit welke gebeurtenis eerst genoemd wordt, de tijdsvorm maakt duidelijk welke het
eerste plaats vond.
- John had gone out, when i arrived at the office.
- He was very tired because he hadn’t slept well.
Staat vaak samen met een past simple.
- I had read the book before i bought it.
Verklikwoorden: after, before, when, of as soon as.
- As soon as i had finished my homework i went out.
Indirecte reden: geeft aan wat iemand eerder heeft gezegd.
- Alex said that he hadn’t read the book.
