Social impact assessment is the process of identifying and managing the social impacts caused by industrial development projects. It can also be applied to plans, policies and programmes concerning a particular community. SIA is an important tool in indigenous 2 communities to assess the economic, social and cultural impacts due to industrial activities. Social Impact Assessment identifies the intended and unintended impacts that a proposed project or development is likely to have on a community or individuals and suggest mitigation measures to prevent these impacts and identify opportunities to enhance the positive impacts and benefits for local communities and broader society.
