Specific objectives;

At the end of this topic the trainee should be able to;-

 Explain the meaning and importance of public relations.
 Highlight the evolution of public relations.
 Discuss the role of public relation in an organization.
Definition

It is planned effort or rented by an organization or company in favour or support of the
positive attitude of human and social life.

Public relation is the planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain good will and
mutually understanding between organization and its public.

Public relations include anticipating for the community getting support from the
community andit ensures the building and maintaining the positive image of the company.

Public Relation distinguished from other disciplines;

1. Advertisement

It is a persuasive selling, it present the most persuasive possible selling message to the right
prospects of the product at the lowest possible cost.

2. Marketing

It is management process responsible for identifying anticipating and satisfying customer
requirement most profitable.

3. Propaganda

It is gain support for an opinion or being greed. Its means giving ideas that may be
false orexaggerated e.g. policy

4. Publicity

It resolves from information being made known. It is a result and may be uncontrollable,
goodor bad for the subject concern. Some personalities receive good and bad publicity.

5. Public relation

It is a planned and sustains effort to establish and maintain goodwill and mutual understanding.
