Traditional Indian economy
India was an agricultural economy, even before British rule ,most of Indians live in Villages only some
of them lives in towns and cities because of trading centers or capital city
The village was the self-sufficient unit of production . Work of villagers was agriculture and
handicraft. In villages people those who live was mostly farmers, potters, weavers, blacksmith and
carpenters.
Villagers participate in larger economy by paying taxes .Taxes collected by king’s official or
sometimes by Zamindars collected taxes. However with the advent of British, there were major
changes in the economic set-up.
