There are many types of care available for children and young people. there is:

Foster Care: Foster care is a home available for children, whose parents or
carers are unable to care for them. The child can be placed in foster care for a
variety of reasons for example their carers could become ill or neglect them. The
foster home provides a safe and secure environment for the child for a
temporary or permanent basis.✔️

Respite Care: Respite care is designed to give carers a break. It allows carers
to rest and take time out for themself therefore they can then give the person
that they care for the best possible care. There are a variety of respite options
available. For example it could be a volunteer or other family member to sit with
the individual for a few hours or the individual could go to care home for a short
period of time.✔️

Residential Care: Residential care is long term care given to adults who are
unable to look after themselves. In residential care the individuals have access
to care 24/7. The home will provide personal care and support for the
individuals. The home will help the individual with washing, eating and will help
them move about.✔️

Adoption: Adoption is a legal process where a child who cannot be raised by
their biological parents is raised legally by another family. The parents who
adopt the child have the exact same rights and responsibilities as the biological
parents. Most children who are adopted have experienced neglect or abuse and
have often spent time in foster care.✔️P2

In April 2016 the social service and well being act came into effect and it
changed social services in wales. The act transformed and improved the well
being for those who need care and support.

In every local authority there is a local safeguarding children board (LSCB). Their
aim is to protect children from harm and make them feel safe. The LSCB is made
up of a variety of authorities such as:

➔ police
➔ health board
➔ hospitals
➔ local authority

If someone suspects that a child or adult is suffering from neglect or abuse then
that person should report it. You can report your concerns to a number of people
for example the police, NSPCC who will then give you advice on the situation or
contact local child protection services. In the social service and wellbeing act
2014 it requires 1“health and social care professionals and teachers to inform

, the local authority if they have reasonable cause to suspect a child is at risk of
experiencing abuse, neglect or other types of harm.”✔️

Once authorities have been informed. They will assess if the child is in
immediate danger. If the child is in immediate danger then the authorities will
take actions for example they will remove the child from the house and place
them somewhere safe such as foster care or the abuser can be removed from
the home. If the child appears to be in harm then under the children act 1989
then the authorities must investigate. Once the investigations have taken

place then they will decide whether more actions need to be taken or not. ✔️P2

if the child is in danger then a case conference is held. In the case conference
professionals will share their information and decide on a child protection plan
and if the child should go on the child protection register. This must be done
within the first 15 days of the assessment.

The child protection register is a private register of all the children who are
suspected to be in danger from abuse, neglect ect.

If the child is in danger then the authorities must put them in a safe place either
foster care or with another family member. The child will be appointed a
guardian whose job it is to look after and care for the child.

The court can make a care order which gives local authorities parental
responsibilities on the child.✔️P2

There are a variety of care companies available for children and adults with
disabilities for example there is great prospect care, TLC care and tact care.

Great prospect care is an independent care agency which provides care and
support for people in their own homes. It provides support for service users with
disabilities or mental health issues. Their main priority is to provide safety for
the service user and empower them to be independent. They believe it is
important to respect the individual and build a relationship with them.✔️

TLC care are care homes that offer residential care, nursing care, dementia care
and respite care. They provide a safe and loving environment for all service
users and also encourages them to be independent by allowing them to choose
their own activities.

Tact is a fostering charity that believes that all children should be cared for in a
friendly, safe and stable home. Their aim is to help children overcome the
trauma that they have suffered and empower them to be confident and
independent. Their vision is to better the lives of children and young adults. ✔️
