AIM: (a)TO STUDY SIMPLE TESTS OF CARBOHYDRATES
EXPERIMENT OBSERVATION INFERENCE
1. Molisch’s Test: A red-violet ring is Food sample
Add a few drops of Molisch formed at the junction contains
Reagent (10% alcoholic solution of two layers. carbohydrates
of naphthol) to 1-2 ml of H2SO4
slowly along the side of the test
tube.
2. Fehling’s Test Reddish brown ppt is Carbohydrates
Add 1-2mlL of Fehling’s formed reducing Sugar
solution(A+B equal volumes) to2
mL of aqueous solution of
carbohydrate keep the test tube
in boiling water
3. Tollen’s Test Silver mirror formed. Carbohydrates
Add 1-2 mLof Tollen’s reagent reduce Sugar.
[AgNO,+ NH,OH] to 1-2 mL of
aqueous solution of
carbohydrate,in boiling water
bath for 5 mts.
RESULT : The given food sample contains carbohydrate
